Last Friday was my last day in my friends’ beautiful home. While they were cruising on their boat for a few months, I stepped in (most eagerly, admittedly) as full-time caretaker of their abode. Their ask last autumn turned out to be serendipitous timing as I had just rented my primary residence in Oregon to long-term renters WITH all my favorite furniture inside. (I felt so triumphant about that contracted deal until I realized I’d rented my primary home out from under myself.) So, down I trotted to my favorite climes - back to my Laguna Land - to live in this magnificent home as a “favor” to my friends.
Their house was built to love its favorite people - it was clearly designed as an entertaining house, and I took it up on its purpose in life on a handful of occasions, even hosting Thanksgiving dinner.
Last weekend, my two dear friends, Tom and Joao, came over to “say goodbye to the house.” As we watched the sunset over the ocean together, Tom asked me what I’d miss most about this house.
What a great question!
… because what I’ll miss most about this house is what’s being ADDED to my own list for my future home purchase.
In other words, whatever appeals to you as you go about your explorations of life, make note accordingly for what you’ll be bringing into your life.
The first step is all about choosing what you wish for yourself.
The second step is getting such absolute clarity on what it is you desire that it becomes what you see. As you repeatedly focus on this imaging, you’re building cells of recognition in your conscious mind.
“Cells of recognition” are a biological term wherein cells bind to each other because they’re neighbors and they’ve discovered a similar purpose together. It works the same for “thought” or energetic cells. As you create and repeat that clear vision in your mind, the subconscious mind picks up the drift and begins to reflect it as well. And the subconscious mind - well, that’s the engine that drives every real result in your life. It’s your reality maker.
As an example, here’s what I’m creating as “cells of recognition” for my future home based on the home I just had the pleasure of living in:
• I loved the nearly silent neighborhood. It proved quite a surprising sanctuary. As I would sit at the outdoor patio table to journal during sunrises, or as I’d linger at the bistro table to watch the evening sunsets, I could hear the waves crashing onto the sand a full mile down. That’s how quiet this ‘hood was.
• I loved the fantastic gourmet kitchen because OMG it was meticulously planned and stocked for throngs, even down to the separate built-in fridge for fruits and veggies just to the right of the prep sink.
• I loved the unhindered view to the panoramic ocean. No bustly neighbors deciding to expand up.
• I loved the giant dining table that welcomed so many friends.
• I love the ranch-style layout of the house with large suites on either side.
• I loved the covered patio with the custom patio table and the comfy couch seating area with its own stone fireplace.
These all clarifying details - not just important but imperative in determining what will be for me in my own house.
Fact is, you’re always building new cells of recognition …
So be watchful of which direction you’re building in. Choose what it is you wish to call in.
